Kurt Kamholz, President of Precision Medical Technologies, Inc. announced this week that the company had completed as planned the installation of additional equipment to expand capacity and improve customer service. Kamholz explained that since PMT focuses on a small group of customers providing a very high level of customer service, it was important to us to keep our lead-times as short as possible.

Since December of last year the Company has added two new Haas VF-3SS Five Axis Mills which increases the capacity of the Mill area by 50%. We are seeing more demand for five axis milling work, especially in the spinal market, in the form of various cervical plates, thoracic plates, and thoraco-lumbar plates.

In the Lathe area PMT has added a Tsugami TMU1, 11 Axis Swiss Style machine with Milling and Turning capability and Dual Spindles. A Star SV32JII lathe has been added, also two new Mori Seiki NL-2500, 6 Axis machines, with Milling & Turning capability and Dual Spindles. This new equipment nearly doubles the Lathe capacity at the company. The demand for Spinal Instruments and Implants is driving the requirements for a number of components like screws, inserter tips, shafts, long handles, and tubes. In a like manner, the Dual Spindle Mori Seiki 6 Axis Lathes are excellent for large handles, knobs, large inserter tips, and other small intricate components.

Kamholz further explained that the company had recently added the ability to form and bend in-house, and a Thermo Scientific Material Analyzer has been added to the final inspection process to verify material compliance to print at an AQL of 1.0.

Kamholz said he was pleased with the progress to date of adding capacity, and in our efforts to recruit and train staff for the new equipment. We have had a number of our long term employees step up to the challenges of learning the new equipment and are creating new opportunities with this growth. We are only successful if our Customers are meeting the needs of their patients and surgeons, and hopefully this added capacity will help accomplish that objective.
